Paul W. Scanlon, P.E., C.E.M., G.B.E., LEED AP

Principal Engineer


Mr. Scanlon is a licensed P.E. in 14 states and Puerto Rico. He is a Certified Energy Manager, Green Building Engineer, and certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED Accredited Professional. A Bachelor of Architectural Engineering graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Paul is also a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, the National Society for Professional Engineers, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers, and the Association of Energy Engineers.

Paul has over 31 years of experience in all aspects of engineering, architecture, construction and High Velocity Hurricane Zone work. His experience includes building systems design and specifications; facility condition assessments and forensic investigations; research activities; Factory Mutual System Approvals; ASCE 7-98 wind uplift calculations; TAS 105 field withdrawal resistance test analyses; RAS 117 roofing fastener attachment analyses; and managing major programs and projects for key clients. Mr. Scanlon’s project experiences include institutional, pharmesudical, educational, military, government, aviation, transit, commercial, residential, food storage and processing, and recreational facilities.

Mr. Scanlon is a notable author and guest lecturer on energy-efficient/sustainable design, building systems integration, energy management, facilities condition assessments, and asset management programs. He has received numerous ASHRAE awards for his accomplishments in innovative new technology, energy management, and energy-efficient design.

Representative recent project experiences include providing the ASCE 7-98 wind uplift engineering calculations, field withdrawal test analyses, product approval reviews, and roofing fastener attachment reports for the following roofing projects:

Mr. Scanlon achieved a long-term goal of designing and constructing an earth-sheltered home for his family in 1985. The home includes a number of innovative components and systems such as a green roof, passive solar heating, and a geothermal heat pump system. The home has been the subject of various solar and energy-efficiency association tours, and was featured on the Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood television series.
